Blue Mountain Sits 10th in Athletic Directors Cup
PENDLETON, Ore. - Since 2012, the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) has awarded the Dr. Maury Ray Cup (Athletic Director's Cup) named in honor of Maury Ray who had a profound influence on both CCS athletics and the NWAACC and was inducted into both Halls of Fame in 2006. In 2013, the NWAACC named their new annual award for the overall most successful college athletic program the “Maury Ray Cup” in his honor.
The Dr. Maury Ray Cup is awarded to the schools that performs the best in each of the conference’s 15 men’s and women’s championships. Points are awarded in order of finish, equal to the number of teams that participate in each sport (i.e. 28 teams the scale would start at 28) and are averaged between a team’s regular season finish and its NWAC championship finish. Teams that do not qualify for a postseason tournament, receive postseason points equal to their regular season finish. Ties are not broken but instead are averaged between the tied teams. Cups will be awarded to winners of two divisions (Large schools-8-15 sports offered, Small schools 1-7 sports offered) and the end of spring sports. The award was not given in the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
